MercyMe – Then Christ Came

MercyMe – Then Christ Came.

GRAMMY-nominated band MercyMe dropped a reimagined version of their latest single “Then Christ Came” featuring acclaimed worship leader Phil Wickham.

Two years in the making, “Then Christ Came” was originally slated for MercyMe’s tenth studio album, inhale (exhale). However, frontman Bart Millard and his co-writer, David Leonard, didn’t finish the track in time. Yet, knowing it was already a special song, the band included a brief, incomplete demo of the chorus on their latest project.

Recently, Millard revisited the lyrics and finished the song with friends Jason Ingram and Phil Wickham. The song was originally released in June 2022.

Lyrics to Then Christ Came By MercyMe

Like a soldier with no armor
In the middle of the battle
I was broken
I was broken
It was only getting darker
In the valley of the shadow
I was hopeless
I was hopeless

I never thought that I would ever see the day
When every single chain would break
Or hear the voice of heaven call my name

Then Christ came
Changing everything
He took my sin and shame away
Now every song
I sing will be for Him
Ever since the moment He walked in
Then Christ came

I was searching for a reason
To believe that I could ever really matter
Ever matter
I was hoping, I was reaching
So desperate for my soul to find its Savior
I need a savior

Then Christ came
Changing everything
He took my sin and shame away
Now every song
I sing will be for Him
Ever since the moment He walked in
Then Christ came
Woah-oh-oh-oh, oh

You are the one I prayed for
You are the one I was made for
Hallelujah
Jesus, You gave me purpose
Jesus, You told me I’m worth it
Hallelujah

I never thought that I would ever see the day
When every single chain would break
Or hear the voice of heaven call my name

Then Christ came
Changing everything
He took my sin and shame away
Now every song
I sing will be for Him
Ever since the moment He walked in

You are the one I prayed for (You are the one)
You are the one I was made for (You are the one)
Hallelujah (Ooh-ooh)
Jesus, You gave me purpose (Jesus)
Jesus, You told me I’m worth it (Hallelujah)
Hallelujah (Oh-oh)

Then Christ came
